WHY IS THE DECK COST CALCULATOR THAT YOU FIND ONLINE NOT ACCURATE?

By Deck Expert, Adam Hollander

Homeowners have tons of information at their fingertips when it comes to figuring out how much an outdoor project might cost.  These online calculators and tools are great ways to identify a ‘general cost’ for your deck or porch project.  There is so much information online about the price of a deck but most of it isn’t completely accurate or could be out of date. There are several considerations to keep in mind when looking at the costs for your outdoor project.  The dollar amount that people find often only include the deck boards but doesn’t account for the following:

  • Railings
  • Materials such as Fasteners and Joist Hangars
  • Stairs
  • Labor
  • Warranty
  • Permits
  • Architectural Drawings
  • Dumpsters

It is important you have the most up-to-date information on whatever search engine you use.  A good rule of thumb is to have money set aside in case of any unforeseen costs that may arise.  Make sure that you know what is included and what isn’t before you select a contractor for your backyard project.
