This multi-level deck system was added to the rear of the home and an existing screened porch, providing easy access to the lower deck and outdoors.  Some of the key features of this project include:

  • A cantilever beam to support the screened porch
  • New banding to the house with appropriate bracing and support at the chimney area
  • Colonial railing on the upper and lower decks
  • Landings and new stair structures for easy access to the back yard
The cantilever beam support significantly strengthens the screened-in deck’s ability to accommodate safely a larger number of guests, increasing the capability of the deck to support a heavier load in the most cost-effective design.

The renovation included reinforcing the attachment of the existing screened-in porch to the house to bring the structure up to current code.

The re-design of the lower deck and stair system resulted in a much more user-friendly and space efficient deck.  A new landing was added to the existing screened-in porch allowing the new, shorter run of stairs to be positioned along the screened-in porch instead of along the side of the house.  This new design allowed the lower deck to be extended, resulting in longer, more usable deck area.
