“Stunning” is the word to describe the Angilello’s new multi-level pressure treated deck and pergola project! The idea was to create a design that better suits their lifestyle and preferences for getting the most enjoyment and use out of their new deck system.
These enhancements include:
- A new run of stairs from the top deck to a landing allowing for a “switch-back” to the bottom deck
- A pergola for providing some shade as well as area for plants and vines to grow
- A weatherproof under-deck water abatement system with a fan and new lighting
The switchback stairway eliminates a long run of stairs and provides more direct access to the lower deck. The wide landing between the stairs allows ample room for negotiating the short run of stairs in either direction (to aid in moving items up and down).
The top deck features a cantilevered support structure providing a longer span from the house to the railing. This allows for greater surface area on the upper deck, a must when entertaining regularly. The new pergola provides plenty of shade of guests or pets to lounge under on hot days.
A special feature included in the construction of the deck system in a “warp-around” for the large tree behind the house. It was important to maintain the green-space in the backyard so a structure and rail system was designed to accommodate the tree.
Perhaps the feature that will provide the greatest functionality is the under-deck ceiling and gutter system. With this new ceiling, the lower deck is kept free from rainwater and runoff from above, allowing the Angilello’s to enjoy the outdoors even on stormy occasions.
