The Harris pergola dominates the deck as it straddles the glass patio doors and the back entrance to the house. Supported by 6” x 6” posts anchored into a concrete base, the pergola is an impressive 10’ wide and 8’ long structure. In addition to the top rafters, whose curved cut design match the supporting pergola’s planks, a layer of 1” x 2” planks blanket the top, providing additional support to the structure and shade and protection from the elements for those under the pergola.
The new curved half-moon deck is crowned by a two-stair step system that gently leads to access to the backyard. The 12’ x 16’ deck significantly extends the outdoor living area and useable space from the back covered breezeway. The deck provides ample room for a patio table and chairs, planters and additional seating.
The Harris’ decided to stain the pressure-treated deck and pergola, further extending the life of the wood and lowering the amount of maintenance required to keep both in brand-new condition for years to come.
